Summer Bible Study 12. Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings.

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

The title here is the name of a book I’m currently reading by Ben Shapiro. It’s laying in a basket in my bathroom and it got my attention this morning. I got to thinking about how God has set up a system and put it in place before he ever created man. It is a system that God has always lived and existed by. Although God does care about our feelings, his system doesn’t allow for feelings to be involved in order to operate within it successfully.

You see, God’s system is primarily powered by His Word and Faith. Every blessing of Abraham is accessed by God’s Word and our Faith in it. I’m sure you’ve noticed that humans are the only species that speaks and uses language to communicate. Now I know that animals make noises and all kinds of sounds that help them communicate, but you have to admit, what monkeys and cats do is not nearly as sophisticated as what humans do. God gave man the ability to utter words in order for us to release the power within them. Notice that every miracle Jesus ever did began with him saying something. He spoke faith filled words and circumstances changed every. single. Time!

In Mark 11 Jesus told his disciples, after cursing the fig tree and it drying up, to have faith in God. That is literally translated as “have the faith of God” or “have the God kind of faith”. Jesus meant for them to speak according to God’s Word and believe it in their heart and don’t doubt. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4 “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore we speak. Believing, having faith and speaking in accordance with faith go hand in hand.

If you’re still not convinced that what you speak matters or is powerful read this….”Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasures of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh”. Whatever you have stored in your heart (hopefully the word of God) it will come out of your mouth. Especially when we are under stress and intense situations…that’s when you find out what you’ve been feasting on with your eyes, ears, time in meditations, etc. Proverbs 18:21. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”. Matthew 12:36 “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement”.

Today I want to encourage to do a “speech” checkup. What are you saying all day long. What have you put your trust and belief in? It’s been said “what you have today is what you said yesterday”. Think about that. That’s very powerful. I want to encourage you to be like David and pray this today “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips”. Psalm 141:3. Feelings are real, but they are often not based in facts. Walking according to the flesh is simply allowing your feelings to dictate what you say. Don’t be quilty of walking according to your natural senses….they will deceive you and lead you down the wrong path. Walk according to the Spirit and the Word of God. Use that Word to fill you heart and mouth. Speak life into your circumstances today! I love you and am praying for you today!
