What Farmers Know that We Need to Learn
Seed time and harvest is one of God’s fixed laws. Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:11-12. He made this promise to Noah after the flood, The LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, And cold and heat, And summer and winter, And day and night Shall not cease.” Genesis 8:21-22. So as you see here as long as Earth remains, seed time and harvest will be in effect.
Our Paster, Bro Jerrel, taught on this concept many years ago. It truly made an impact on me because I had already studied this concept in both O.T. and N.T. and it became more imprinted in my heart and mind. Everything produces after it’s kind. The strength to reproduce is in the seed it’s self. But this concept is not only powerful in the natural realm but the spirit realm as well. Let me explain: If you plant tomato seeds, you get tomatoes. If you plant watermelon seeds you get watermelons. But in the spirit realm, that can and does manifest in our atmosphere and circumstances, if you plant strife, you will reap strife. If you argue with people and continue in strife, it will create more strife. The same is true when you operate in love, kindness and mercy. The strength to reproduce love, kindness and mercy is within these fruits of the Spirit themselves.
Words reproduce as well. They are powerful seeds. When we speak faith-filled words, they produce faith. Fear-filled words produce fear. Our spirit man responds to the words we speak. They get planted in our heart and will eventually produce a harvest. “ Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure.…” Matthew 12:32-35. This is a principal in the Kingdom of God that we need to learn and apply. Prov. 18 says that Death and Life are in the power of the tongue. We can actually sow seeds of Life or seeds of Death.
Jesus told a parable about sowing the Word in Mark4. Here Jesus is saying that God is the one that has furnished the seed…the seed is God’s Word. But, we have to be the one to plant the Word in order to receive an harvest. In Luke 17 Jesus told his disciples that if you had faith the size of a “Mustard Seed”, you could speak to a tree and it be pulled up by it’s roots and be cast into the see. It would have to obey you. Jesus is using a seed to teach us that Faith has to be planted in order for us to reap what the Word of God promises. Even the smallest amount of faith is very powerful. The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds but it’s powerful enough to grow into a full grown tree and provide nurishment and habitat for all kinds of creatures. Our heart is where the seed of faith is planted. When we speak that faith out of our mouth in the form of faith-filled words, (based on God’s Word), that Word (seed) begins to grow and produce after it’s own kind. What does that mean? When we speak the Word of God regarding our circumstances, in time, we reap that very Word we have been speaking. But we can’t dig that seed up with our doubt. Farmers don’t plant seed one day and the next go and dig it up to see if it’s sprouting yet. No, they add water (more of God’s Word) to that seed. That farmer knows that the sun and water (same as our faith and mixed with good confessions over our seed) will make that seed take root and grow. The farmer doesn’t go day to day wringing his hands worrying about that seed. No, he stays with it. He keeps watering that seed. He exercises patience. He doesn’t curse his seed or talk about how ridiculous that in two days nothing is happening. He’s confident in seedtime and harvest. He knows that he’s doing all he can to nurture that seed and has FULL expectation that he will see the fruit of that seed. Mark 4:28 says “For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear”. Farmer Baker (my son in law) knows in time, he will see that see produce after it’s own kind. He doesn’t plant a tomato see and expect to see a watermelon. He knows what he wants/needs and that’s what he plants and that’s exactly what he EXPECTS to get! My son in law, Hop, KNOWS how to plant, cultivate and produce a great garden. His gardens always ABUNDANTLY produce. Ever notice when you plant seeds in a garden, you don’t just get one vegetable/fruit? No, you get LOTS of whatever you plant! That seed is so powerful it not only produces after it’s own kind, but does so in abundance!!! The Word of God is exactly the same. It not only produces what we need/desire, but gives us more than we could ask or think!!
Jesus wants us to have the God-kind of faith. In Mark 11, Jesus said “Whosoever will say to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea; and will not doubt in his heart, but will believe that those things which he said will come to pass, he will have whatever he says”. Isn’t that just like a farmer? He plants the seed he wants, he doesn’t doubt it will produce, he believes it will come to pass and has such faith in the seed that he never worries about it! Farmer Baker knows that in order to see that seed produce he has to weed around it, fertilize it, water it and make sure it’s exposed to sunlight. Just throwing the seed in the ground is not enough. He tends to that seed.
God’s Word is incorruptible seed. If you will plant it in the good soil of your heart and tend to it by not doubting it, pouring on good confessions that you know it’s on the way, refusing to allow the cares (anxiety) of this world to choke it like weeds, that Word will produce!! God is a Faith God and he has never done anything without saying it first. All of creation was spoken into existence. Ephesians 5 tells us that we are to be imitators of God. As His children, we have to talk like Him and act like Him.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Romans 10:17. You need to hear the Word of God daily. Read it, speak it and mediate on it. It will become the seed that produces everything you need to succeed in life. Words are like containers and they carry either faith or fear. Whatever you carry, you produce. It is powerful seed. Make sure you are speaking your answers and not your problems and circumstances that you want to change. If our words reproduce then think of what you are saying. Are you speaking words of life or words of death? Are you speaking love and kindness or are you speaking strife and unrest? Are speaking grace or unforgiveness? Are you speaking negativity or positivity? Are you speaking “I can”, I will” or are you speaking “I can’t, I won’t”? What God has said in His Word IS YOUR ANSWER!! That’s why it’s so important to know what He has said about you and your situation! Be like God…speak your answer, speak your end results, speak what you desire!!! God’s Word will defeat satan and his plans for you EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
Neuroscientist have now proven what the Bible has said for over 2,000 years. Depending on the words we speak, our brain reacts and tells the body to release certain chemicals. When we speak positive words, our body releases hormones such as dopamine, endorphins and all sorts of good chemicals. When we speak negatively, our brain also tells our body to release chemicals, but these are harmful to our body. Chemicals such as cortisol in over abundance can cause several negative conditions in the body. Dr. Caroline Leaf has discovered that the brain cells actually change and respond to positive and negative words. Each time the brain reacts, the body is the recipient of that response. We can literally make ourselves sick or more healthy depending on the words we speak. Jesus said the words I speak are life!! Do a check up today and see what you’ve been speaking. Be a good imitator and speak life!! We are living today what we spoke the day before!! Be careful to choose wise words and plant seeds that will bring you the kind of harvest that will help you live life successfully in every area!!
